Healthcare For All

Have you ever felt lost, ignored, or uncared for? Well that's how millions of Americans will feel if state leaders choose to opt out of President Obama's healthcare expansion, which is something they are considering doing. Republican governors of these states: Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Iowa, want to opt out. Now you may ask, "What is the expansion about?" Well, it's about Obama wanting to deliver healthcare to poor Americans. Many people cannot afford healthcare, yet it is something essential to have. Very essential, actually. What if those people get sick? How are they going to come up with the money to go to the doctor's office? Many times, there is no way for them.

This is the case for millions of Americans, so it's certainly a problem. So our President put this new program into action, in order to help out those people.

But certainly, this whole idea is not settling well with everyone. Republicans are worried about this whole proposal costing the U.S. Government too much money, because it will be quite an expensive program. It will cost the Government billions and trillions of dollars over time. That's a lot of money! A lot of people oppose it because they think it's just a waste of money. I found some opposition when I was doing some research:

"It is projected to cost approximately 1.6 trillion dollars which will be funded with cuts to other wasteful spending. Of course, that cost will also be offset by the increased productivity of workers who might otherwise be a drain on the society due to illness. Since the projected cost is over 10 years, this translates into 160 Billion dollars a year which is about a fifth of the base Military budget.

If the cost of this was borne directly by the taxpayer with no offsets the end result would be that it will cost every taxpaying American, if split equally, about $1159 a year for the next 10 years. Considering that the cost of paying COBRA for a family of four is about $1000 per month or $12,000 per year, this is quite a bargain for families who suddenly find themselves out of a job."

So clearly there are more than a few people who oppose this whole thing. Personally, I don't agree with all this opposition. In my opinion, most of those people who oppose this whole thing are selfish rich people. They have no idea what it’s like to live on food stamps, to not know if you will have food on your table the next day. No, they have no idea. Completely clueless. So instead of being so selfish and calling this whole thing a waste of money, why don’t they just reflect on how ridiculous they are making themselves look? Yes, there are other things that need to get taken care of in this country, a lot of things that need to be fixed. Healthcare should be one of the most essential things, because that is very important to have. So of course people who can’t afford it should have a way to get health care. We can’t just abandon a large percentage of Americans, what kind of country is that.

So I would like to hear your opinion: Is this whole program worth it? Or is it just a waste of everybody’s time? Is it really going to help Americans, or just make things harder for them?

  1. I think the real question we need to be asking here is whether or not you want a government that tries to force you to do whatever it thinks is right for you. If the President thought jumping off a bridge was the best thing for all Americans, would you be ok with him passing a law that said you had to jump off a bridge or you would have to pay a fine? No of course you wouldn't because you know its not the best thing for you. And why do you know that? Because YOU know what is the best thing for YOU. Not the President. Now think about how the people out there are feeling that don't believe that buying health care is the best thing for them. How do they feel that their being forced to do something they don't believe is right for them. That's what this is about. Its the question of who knows what's best for you. Is it you, or the President?

  2. When a mother tells a kid to come in the house before dark in a bad neighborhood and he's outside playing with his friends; Does he like it? Of course not. I agree that the government should not force us to do things we don't want to do, but then at the same time you can't complain that health care is to expensive and it's to difficult to get. I will admit I do not know much about the health care mandate but nor do MOST PEOPLE . I recently read a poll on the new york times ( or cnn) that said most people do not know much about the whole mandate they only know bits and pieces. I don't feel that the spending of money on HEALTH is such a bad thing. EVERYONE needs health benefits at one point in their lives. I would like to clarify though that the supreme ( yes, the highest court in our land ) has ruled that there is no tax, it is a fine. I have heard many specials and clips and read articles about how these fines would not bother someone who is doing what they're supposed to be doing but rather effect someone who is trying to get around the law which you shouldn't try to do in the first place. The media has shined a whole lot of light on this health mandate. Too much even. Political parties are pratically strangling each other over this mandate. Let's not be selfish, some of us can afford health insurance , but A LOT OF US CAN'T. Some political parties are merely looking out for themselves and their few constiuents who can afford their own health care. However let me be the bearer of bad news, the economy is not doing so great , jobs aren't either so therefore we need to help majority of the population who can't help themselves.

Give obama some credit he put his neck on the line, to benefit those who cannot help themselves. Political chivalery I'll call it. How much harder is a few HEALTH benefits really going to make our lives?

  3. Are you serious right now? I'm not going to give Obama anything on this issue because he doesn't deserve anything. This debate is not whether or not healthcare is bad. That doesn't matter here. What matters is what this country was founded to stand for. And what is that? Its freedom and liberty. A country that tries to force you to buy something doesn't sound very free or libertarian to me.

Don't try to use your "healthcare is good for people" rhetoric on me because I don't care. What I care about is that Obama is trying to force his own opinion on me. My health is my own concern. If I believe healthcare is good for me then I'll by all means go get it. If I don't want it, I should not have to go buy it.

Also let me just point out how misinformed YOU are since you want to try to point it out in others. The Supreme Court did in fact upheld ObamaCare as a tax.

Now, let me just point out what seems to be a major flaw in this system in the first place. Because there are people who don't have healthcare, we should force them to buy the very thing they cannot afford, but since they can't, we'll just tax them. Yeah. Seems legit.

  4. (Just to point this out: having the opposite opinion of you is pretty interesting)

Now...I am so serious right now. Regardless of what you think you want you are not the only person in america. There are 313-some odd million people in this country. You are just one. The people who oppose this seem not to realize that there are MORE PEOPLE THAN THEMSELVES.

I understand that you are trying to argue that you shouldn't be forced to do something , but it's government we are talking about here raymond. How many taxes come out of our paychecks on a bi-weekly, monthly , or whatever basis that pays for some government funded something ?

We already pay for : Foodstamps, SSI, SSB, SSD, defense, FASFA's, WIC, housing, and plenty of other things that I don't really know about it but I know we pay for a lot in this country.

For once the government is offering the whole population something that will benefit it.
Don't be that person that sees the ONE LITTLE NEGATIVE THING aside from the greater implications of the mandate.

(you're right it is a tax or whatever, MY BAD)

I think that we should spend more time really reading what this thing is because all everyone ( including myself ) is doing is reading what we see from the media which never really helped anyone accomplish anything

  5. No. The people that oppose this understand and respect the concept of liberty. And do you realize what you just said? You pretty much just said "the government's always right." I really thought you were smarter than that.

And you really believe denying liberty, one of the unalienable rights we are all entitled to according to the Declaration of Independence, one of the things our founding fathers risked their lives for is "one little negative thing?" Because its not. Again, Mahogany I really thought you were smarter than that.

Now what does what our taxes go to have anything to do with this conversation?

And yes it is very interesting.

  6. I didn't say the government's alwayssss right. In this case, I'd have to say that really are. ( shall we go back to what I said about the mother and her child ? ) According to our constituiton as it was written I am 3/5ths of a person as are you.

But we don't adhere to that anymore do we? Things change..priorities move. I love my country I really do, but we have to find some way to keep our base morals as well as change them to fit the change in our society. Which as of right now, the problem is people need something that they are not getting for many reasons.

The taxes part is an argument a lot of people like to use and say I shouldn't have to pay for this and this and this. When in all actuality they are already paying for things that they don't know they are paying for. ( such as the things I listed ) I'm just saying that it shouldn't be used as a con argument for the health mandate because if that's the case I don't want to pay for half the things I pay for.

I'm not basing what I'm saying off of the Decleration , I'm going off of what rules were layed down by our founding fathers. Doesn't it say, and I am almost certain it does that we will be protected by the government. The government is our supplier and should do what is in the best intrest of those who need some HELP.

It's a nasty debate honestly and I think the country as well as you and I just need to agree to disagree.
