http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/31/us/politics/romney-vows-to-deliver-country-from-economic-travails.html?_r=1&ref=politics
It is obvious that during election the people running will talk and say many things about their opponents but some of the things that Romney said about Obama was really disappointing.
I never got into politics until I hear that things start to get serious. I thought that it would be a big change for president Obama to take over the house and show his capability of serving the country. Throughout the years of his presidency I have seen many news reports and read many articles that said President Obama was lying about his identity and he is not a real American citizen. I was a little young back then and did not understand all the rules and procedures for becoming a president. One thing that my comes in my mind when I think of this topic now is that the citizens of the United States didn't think about what race, gender and/or where President Obama came from rather they believed in his ideas and what he wanted to do for the country. if he won not everyone was doing something Wrong. I mean he didn't pay the public to vote for him.
president Obama did do a great job by bringing an end to Osama Bin laden but according to Romney, the president was not able to react to the nuclear bomb threats form Iran. He also stated that Obama was not successful in bringing change to the economy either.
I may be rolling off topic here but I believe that even legal immigrants should be given a chance to run as president because they can also bring in new ideas that can help our country. I am not saying to bring a forty year old engineer of computers but a sensible person who has good views in the political field. What do you guys believe? Will it work if someone new can come to lead our country or will it be a major disaster?

Romney Says: Let go of Obama.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/31/us/politics/romney-battles-americans-attachment-to-obama.html?pagewanted=1&ref=politics
As election time keeps coming closer, the public starts to become more and more restless. One of their biggest reason for their discomfort is that President Obama was the first African American President in the White House to talk about economic change after the Great Depression but was unable to keep up with his promises about the changes. The main question is did the public make the right decision four years ago?
Mitt Romney is trying his best to convince Americans that President Obama's time is up. He did what he had to do for four years but it is time to let him go an move on. Just to get people to vote for him Romney is going to begin a ten week campaign, especially targeting those people who can not seem to forget President Obama. By doing this Romney is just trying to point out that he and Ryan will start fresh that will bring generational change in the country.
Yet. it loos like that Mitt Romney is not going to make too much progress because even though President Obama failed to keep his promises his supporters are willing to give him another chance.
It is really hard to decide where to stand on this topic. I mean it is not a bad idea of giving President Obama a second chance, not everyone is perfect at first. Though it sometimes is a good idea to move on from the past and try out some new things. Everyone has new ideas that they bring in and sometimes they progress with those ideas, sometimes they don't. What i believe is that the key to running a country is the public. In every way, somehow the public is involved. They seek a leader who wants to bring change for them and do tings that will help them not a leader that wants to run for the money and the luxuries.
Election are really tough this time and we can only hope for the best. So it is time for you guys to give your opinions about the elections. I don't want you guys to tell me who you would vote for because that is too personal but I would like to know that what are some qualities you guys look for in a leader? You can be open about your opinions as much as you want because your comments won;t hurt me but will help give me a better understanding of you guys.

Are Republicans childish?
Well I watched most the speeches for the republicans and they all just seem to be bashing Obama. It doesn’t seem reasonable to promote your own ideas while hindering and ridiculing the competition. However that is the best of ways to hype up the audience, highlight the opponent’s flaws and boasting your own ideas. What people need to do is to view the flaws of both parties. Even the Fact checkers need to be fact checked themselves {hint}. What are do you guys think about their techniques of appealing to people?

The RNC: Are you watching?
In less than an hour, former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, will accept his party's nomination and become their official candidate for President of the United States. He and his running mate, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, will face off against the incumbents President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Last night, Rep. Ryan delivered a speech to the delegates. Media fact-checkers on several internet news sites have been working to compare this speech with conflicting evidence and accounts.
How can the voting public find out more about the potential impact of the candidates' policies? Where can we find information that offers more than one side of the story? Why does this matter in a democratic society?
Your work in today's first class was purposeful and positive! Thank you for the effort. Pay attention to the media coverage of the election this weekend. Begin to connect names of significant people with their roles in government. As you read more, you will become more comfortable with background information that makes the study of government much more manageable.
We will make glossaries next week, so in preparation pay attention to politicians' names and job titles. Try to figure out: What role does this person play in the workings of American Government?
More details on the glossary on Tuesday. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to your thoughts on media and an informed electorate.

A few questions to think about:
What kinds of information/evidence do you think informed citizens should review as they prepare to vote for a representational government? How can voters stay informed?
How can the voting public find out more about the potential impact of the candidates' policies? Where can we find information that offers more than one side of the story? Why does this matter in a democratic society?

Romneys Next Target: Women?
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/ohio-romney-ryan-target-women-vote-152301733.html?_esi=1
Mitt Romney, who himself was supporting anti abortion is now saying that he wants to help and women grow in business. You guys heard it right! Mitt Romney finally found a way to help him win the elections.
Women were always meant to stay home and take care of the kids. Though a lot has changed throughout the years or may I say in history, yet women still are known to be weaker than men. And this gives Mitt Romney a perfect topic t discuss to attract more voters. The guy himself who wanted to take rights of health care from women now wants to help them.
Just last week while at a rally in Powell, Ohio, Romney spoke to the people or should I say women about how if he got elected he will help them be more successful in helping them build more businesses. I think he was trying to point out that women aren't capable without the support of men.
Yet according to Gallup Poll, President Obama is in the 8 point lead from Romney of women voters.
This is not something that women should take lightly because they may have more businesses to work for but is that more important than their health issues?
What do you think? Is Romney really going to help women or is he supporting women so that he can win? Think about the abortion issues while answering this question.

Is college worth it?
I read this and it really got me wondering. Now as a junior
so many people are asking about college. I am not the only one. But there are
instances of people getting a college degree and either not being able to get a
job, or their opportunities are just as good as people with high school
diplomas. So usually it is college majors competing with high school grads,
and people with G.E.D’s. If less people attend college less skilled people have
jobs, less valuable jobs are and it affects the money flow therefore it affect government. How would this affect the cycle the money, and government, if there
are less college grads?

we have to pay for skipping school ?
http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t2#/video/us/2012/08/21/dnt-ct-parents-truancy-fine.wtnh
So I was watching this video and realized really how important it was for kids to stay in school. In New Britain , Ct there is a proceeding law that will fine any kid that skips school , and the cost is 75 dollars . Is this fair ? In the video one man said that some parents don't even have a car , how do they expect them to afford 75 dollars every time their child skips , that's insane right ?
Actually No , it is not insane. So many kids think they can practically do whatever they want , smoking , drinking and skip school. These kids actually skip school to do these illegal things. In the video people were complaining about kids who skip school going on their property, wandering around, and littering here and there. Is that fair to the community. Shouldn't something be done? I believe that maybe this fining will get the kids to actually obey the rule of going to school everyday. And yes I know that the kid doesn't pay the bill the parent does, but I think after awhile the parent will get so fed up in handing out 75 dollars time after time and become more stern in discipline. Parents might start actually dropping off the student at school or even call the school to see if the child has arrived. This might sound like babysitting but sometimes things have to be done to get the job done.
Anyways, all I am really trying to say is; to many kids are wasting their education and skipping school to do non sense. I honestly feel that it was a brilliant idea for Bristol, Ct to promote such punishment; it will grab the parents attention immediately and then will start to make the parents steer the child in the right way.
Maybe if this law comes down to New haven we will have a change in attendance , Do you think so ?

Should ABC's turn to the Republican side?
http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2012/08/27/160131119/herman-cain-and-his-abcs-he-sees-blacks-turning-to-the-gop
Herman Cain, only African-American contender in the 2012 presidencial race, is optimistic in bringing more blacks to vote on the Republican side. Blacks have overwhelmingly voted on the Democratic side for decades. I think that blacks probably voted democratic for the past decades because they felt the democratic candidate was more suitable for the job as president than the republican candidate. Cain believes that blacks have the capability to think for themselves and vote for whoever they want to be president; that they don't need to be told who to vote for. He thinks of these blacks as "American Black Conservatives"(ABC). If he says this, then why is he recommending that blacks should vote for Republicans? Isn't that telling them who to vote for?
Cain believes that Romney is the kind of person that is likable, more likable than Obama. I disagree with this because I don't see anything likable about Romney. In my opinion, Romney seems sketchy and I don't see him as a leader for this country.

Tropical Storm Isaac Brewing in the Gulf of Mexico
I know, this class is on a topic on politics and government, but I thought this would be a great blog to post about the confusion and questions about this storm and how big of an impact it's going to make in the U.S. later on this week. Just seven years ago, the gulf coast was slammed and brushed away by Hurricane Katrina costing over $81 Billion dollars on damage and causing several deaths. With an eye on Isaac, only God knows what's going to happen in the coming days.
Isaac caused many power outages and flooding over Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Cuba just the past few days. Haiti was one of the hardest hits by this storm causing 6 deaths overnight. Streets were flooded, power was out, and tents/homes were unfortunately destroyed. Isaac arrived in Florida early Sunday morning causing thousands of homes without power, streets flooded, and beach erosion. Flights flying within Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Miami were delayed and many were cancelled. The Republican National Convention in Tampa is postponed until Tuesday due to uncertainty of Isaac. Now weather forecasters predict this storm to brew into a category 2 hurricane by late Tuesday, early Wednesday with winds up to 105mph between the Florida panhandle and the Louisiana coast. Hurricane watches and warnings have been alerted for those residents.
What is going to happen in the upcoming days of this storm becoming a hurricane? What else will the governors of these states do to protect their citizens? What will Obama do before or after the storm? I encourage you all as well to keep an eye on this storm and the impacts it will make! Will this be another tragedy like Katrina, or just nothing? Better be safe than sorry...

"Birth" Joke Conflict or Confusion?
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/08/24/romney-no-one-has-ever-asked-to-see-my-birth-certificate/
Just today, this article was posted about Romney talking about his birth place. He laughed with a small joke saying that no one asked for his birth certificate. Once he mentioned that, it drew a confusion and conflict between the Republicans and Democrats. Once you read the article, you will comprehend that republicans still believe that Obama was not born in the U.S. while others believe that Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961. As I viewed and read this article, it seemed like Republicans committed another attack on the Democrats by saying that in order to be president you need to be born in the U.S. obviously. But the Republicans just are still unsure where Obama was born. What's your opinion to this crazy story?
As I've said in my previous blog and I'm not trying to offend or corrupt anyone's belief, but these attacks between the two parties are just a pain! What frustrates me is that don't Romney and Obama have better things to say and do to help this country solving issues such as health care and Second Amendment policies? Both candidates spent so much money on their campaigns wasting time where instead save money and use it to our biggest issues here in the U.S. still! WE SADLY HAVE POVERTY, HOMELESSNESS, AND UNEMPLOYMENT AND BOTH CANDIDATES DECIDE TO JUST ATTACK EACH OTHER!!! PEOPLE, DON'T YOU SEE THE PICTURE NOW! THAT IS WHY I'M FRUSTRATED WITH THE CAMPAIGNS THIS YEAR AND IN THE PRIOR YEARS. THE SOLUTION FOR STRUGGLING HASN'T ARRIVED YET!
What's your perspective on the birth story? How does the story relate to what I'm trying to say? Can we rely on our leaders? Is it possible for them to change? Say your opinion, it's okay what you guys say. I will accept anything because it's your belief and I totally respect it.

Gay marriage: fundamental right or sin?
I understand that a lot of you won't share the same opinion I have of this issue because of your religious beliefs. I profoundly understand and respect that, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just ask that you try and be as open-minded is possible, I personally support gay marriage.
Earlier this year, president Obama announced that, after a lot of deliberation with family members and close friends, he had come to the conclusion that he personally believes that same-sex couples should be able to get married. Making him the first president to have ever endorse gay marriage . The controversy over gay marriage has become highly publicized. However, this issue is not a new debate. Society has voiced it's opinion on the subject for many years but just like the president many people are evolving from the idea. Even, though we are gradually learning to except gay couples; there's a lot that needs to be done in order for us to discharge the issue. Gay couples should be entitled to the same marriage rights as straight couples. A lot of people indicate that a marriage should "only" be between a man and woman, but wait? I thought marriage was about "two" people that love each other and want to create a future together. What do I know??I'm only a naive teenager! What I do know is that LGTBQ will not give up without a fight, so banning gay marriage isn't going to make the issue disappear. President Obama always felt that gays and lesbians should be treated equally and fairly, but now that he became public on the issue I really hope that people would think on the issue with more compassion. Many argue that the announcement may affect people decision when their placing their votes on November." A democratic senator who supports Obama's re-election as well as gay marriage told yahoo news that the president could face "significant electoral risk". But, later on the article states that the president as well the people are more interested in the economy, increasing the job rate, and ending the war in Afghanistan. Matter of fact, a narrow majority of 50 percent favored making it legal, with only 48 percent against it,( Yahoo news). One thing for sure republican candidate Mitt Romney will be using this as a way to target the president especially since he doesn't approve of same-sex marriage.
Now,my question to you guys is -Do you think same-sex marriage should be legal? Why or why not?

What does a cross stand for?
Last year, American Atheists Inc. formed a lawsuit to get
rid of the 9/11 museum’s choice of a huge steel cross that’s located on ground
zero. The Museum is still currently fighting the lawsuit against them. The Atheist
group believes that a religious symbol should have no place as a monument where
those of a different belief have died. The president of the Atheist group,
David Silverman, was quoted saying, “This shrine is a cross. It was picked up,
trimmed, polished, the word 'Jesus' was carved on top of it, it was prayed over
in front of a church for five years.”
The museum believes
that the cross tells the story of 9/11 and of the hope volunteers had to find
survivors during that time. They also point out that the government does not
have any say of what religious symbols a museum decides to include in their
collection. “The museum argues that it is an "independent non-profit
corporation, and not a government body.”
The museum is claiming that the cross has no religious
purpose, that it’s just a way to tell the story of what happened. If that was
true then the story is one sided. More than just Christians, Catholics and people
that practice religions that use the cross as a religious symbol, died that
day, but they’re not represented in the story the museum is telling. The ground
where they died is taken up by one huge cross and no other object or symbol
that represents the lives and stories of the rest of the people who died
whether they were first hand victims or those who died trying to help put out
the fire and search for survivors. I believe that if they put up one symbol that
represents a certain group of people they should put up other symbols on the
site that represent all of the victims on that day
.
What do you think the museum should do about this situation?
What do you believe
should be on ground zero, if anything?
Should the government have more say about what goes into
museums if their representation of things goes against the constitution in some
way, or excludes certain groups from
their exhibits?

" Gutting Welfare"
For Three week in a row, A new television commercial airing ,staring Mitt Romney claimed President Barack Obama was dropping the work requirements in the law for the federal welfare-to-work program. Since 1996 the welfare recipients were required to work. Some say that July 12th, President Obama secretly ended work requirements and is practically " gutting welfare reform" . One of Virginia's leading newspapers called Obama " Nuts" and also stated that " If you want to get more people to work, you don't loosen the requirements – you tighten them. Mitt Romney's plan for a stronger middle class will put work back in welfare" . The news paper is called Richmond Times-Dispatch , The daily news for Virginia's capital city. I don't think Obama would really do that especially if he's all about helping the middle . Later that week the Obama campaign responded to the commercial and stated that "The Obama administration has strengthened the welfare to work requirement, not weakened it. " and " "Mitt Romney continues to run ads that independent news organizations, former President Clinton, and the Republican co-author of welfare reform have said are not true." Towards the end of the week a come back commercial aired showing that the Mitt Romney's campaign commercial was incorrect . The commercial also included "See this? Mitt Romney claiming the president would end welfare's work requirements? The New York Times calls it 'blatantly false'. The Washington Post says: 'the Obama administration is not removing the bill's work requirements at all." The funny part about this issue is that it seemed like Romney isn't all about facts but rumors. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/08/20/romney-attacks-obama-over-welfare-in-third-campaign-commercial/

Novembers Top Five
For years I thought that people only voted for what president they thought should be next in line, Never for anything other than that . Not only are we choosing a president and members of congress voters in several states will vote on high profile social issues such as Same Sex Marriage , Abolishing The death Penalty , Physician- Assisted Suicide , Undermine Obama care , and lastly Legalizing Marijuana . November 6 these votes will be cast . Of course these issues aren't being voted for in all the states but in several states.
Ex:
Same Sex Marriage Voting : Being held in Washington , Maryland, and Maine. The state lawmakers in Washington and Maryland passed legislation this year to stamp that Same Sex Marriage is allowed . This is on hold until the public gets a chance to vote in November , Some say "In every state where same-sex marriage has been put to a popular vote before, it's been defeated" , But supporters are hoping for this year to be different.
Abolishing The Death Penalty Voting : Being held in California , People opposing it say "it's costing the state too much". But the proposition say that they want to " replace it with a maximum penalty of life without parole, and direct $100 million a year to other law enforcement priorities" . With two strong arguments I wonder how the the votes on this issues are going to go.
If you had the chance to vote on any one of these issues which one would you vote for and why?

A Voice To Young Voters?
Paul Ryan, Many may know him as Mitt Romney's sidekick during this election but a magnet to the young people? speaking on his Alma mater in Ohio on Wednesday Ryan took a trip to Miami University of Ohio , Ryan actually went there in 1992 and earned a few degrees in economics and political science. Rob Harrelson , The GOP ticket thrills member college Republicans says "He's young. He's energetic. He's popular. He's rising through the ranks of the Republican Party and in the House". some people feel the same exact way as Harrelson. Ryan's youth will keep him pulling in the votes of college students. If true Republicans who lost the battle for young voters in 2008's election against President Obama will be in for some very great news. I think some young voters only pay attention to the appeal the candidates have not the facts they actually put in to it , apparently Ron Harrelson feels the exact way I do because he only states how young and popular Ryan is never did he say that Paul Ryan shows what we need in a Vice President or that his budget proposal was a real eye opener to what we really need as American citizens. The only reason why the Republican party wants Ryan as Mitt Romney Rep. is to be used as bate for younger voters that don't even pay attention to facts but to how popular a candidate is . Do you think age has a lot to do with this years pick?

“I was fired for pressing “like”
The majority
of students, if not all, have social networking sites. For years we are warned
about what we put on, say, or do on them. The problem is what we believe is
safe on the site could actually harm us in the long run. I’m not talking about
putting up pictures we shouldn’t, or saying things that if future employers/current
employers saw on your page, would make them want to not higher you or fire you.
We all know the risk of that. What many of us don’t really consider is about
the like button on facebook. People hit like for many different things, some
not so serious, while sometimes for a more pressing issue ect. If you like
something, it’s your own opinion, which is covered in your 1st
amendment rights, right? Wrong. Our government doesn’t see clicking like as
making a statement:
“The district court’s holding that“‘liking’ a
Facebook page is insufficient speech to merit constitutional protection”
because it does not “involve actual statements,”
Thanks to these
views our court system ( appeals court still pending) people have been legally
fired because of their views. If you have a job right now, until this issue is
determined by the appeals court, keep this in mind. Watch and be picky about what
you click like on. Even better stay clear of the like button for now because it
isn’t just law enforcement officials getting fired because of what they “liked’.
You can most
likely tell that I believe that what we like on facebook should be covered in
our amendments because with one click of a button we are expressing what
matters to us. That’s what I think but what about you? Should clicking a button
count as an “involved actual statement” or should it be considered just a word
until we declare our opinions with full sentences?

there are links to different parts of the story. The quote came from the first

Finally Free or not?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/young-illegal-immigrants-begin-applying-for-relief-from-deportation/2012/08/15/1bf09026-e6f0-11e1-8f62-58260e3940a0_story.html
As all of you have heard that President Obama has put into effect the immigration policy. This policy will allow immigrants age thirty and younger who have been living in the United States for more than five years from being deported. These immigrants will be allowed to go to school and work here in the U.S.
All the immigrants have started preparing all their paper works in advance to see if they qualify and how they can apply. "“People are very, very anxious to file, so we’ve been telling them to over-prepare,” said Emid Gonzalez, manager of legal services at Casa de Maryland.
All these people have the right to be happy knowing that they will also have a bright future and they won't be paying for their parents mistakes. This will enlighten their lives with happiness. For those kids that thought that there was going to be nothing after high school have new hopes. After going to college and becoming someone they can not only help America but also for their countries so that kids there can also look forward to a bright future.
One thing that is bothering me is what if President Obama doesn't get elected? What will the future if these kids be? I am not against President Obama or his policy for the immigrants but I also feel that this is for his own benefits. This policy is to take affect in August and elections are not till November, so I am not saying this in a mean way but what if he is doing this so that all those immigrants will vote for him? If he really wanted wouldn't he put this policy in affect a few years before why just a few months before the elections? I am not against the government nor do I hate them but if another President comes in the house and doesn't follow this policy then the kids that were living here will have to go back because now the government knows that they had entered illegally. Though all we can do is hope for the best for all those eligible
This policy is going to give many kids a new life but what if President Obama doesn't get elected, then who will these kids look forward to help them?

Romney Doesn't Pay His Taxes
http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2012/07/17/156906795/obama-campaign-ad-did-romney-pay-any-taxes-at-all-some-years
Over the last two years, Romney has paid only 15% in taxes with a 43 million dollar income. This is very low because someone with his kind of income should be paying at least 25% in taxes. With how much taxes Romney has paid, it is possible that in some years he didn't pay any taxes at all. Nobody knows much about Romney's tax paying because he has only released one full year of his tax returns. This must mean that he is hiding something that he did with his taxes. The fact that he is hiding something just make me dislike him even more. How are we going to have a president who hides things because he thinks others won't approve of it. This shows that he isn't cut out for the big role as president.
Would you feel comfortable with a leader who hides everything because they think you won't like it?

Corporations Are (Bad) People!
I don't have am article for this post but I just wanted to give my quick opinion on Romney's comment that "Corporations are people" first of all nowadays it seems like corporation have growing opinions in political and social issues, Oreo has run a pro-gay campaign, Chick Fil A's president (not the corporation as a whole) announced that he was against gay marriage, and Papa John's is against Obama Care. Does anyone else see how quickly this can escalate? Chick Fil A had its largest day of sales when a bunch of anti-gay people gathered at their restaurants all around the country. Why? Because of the free publicity that they've been getting from the news through the old philosophy that there's no such thing as bad publicity. Now all a corporation has to do to boost sales is have some say in a social or political issue and BAM, there are debates all across the country on their stance on the issue and the country is reminded of them and their brand everyday on the news. At the end of the day a CEO's opinion is not the opinion of a company nor is it the views of its employees. Corporations are not people, and if they were I certainly wouldn't want to be friends with them.
More Job Openings, But Jobless Rates Increases?
You're reading the title and say to yourself,"How could this be?" Labor Department says that in the month of July, the national unemployment rate has inched up to 8.3%.The economy added about 163,00 new jobs last month, the most in 5 months this year.
Though there are more jobs, the problem is that no industry is showing encouraging growth. No industry is strong.
Last Month's Industries Figures :
Professional & Business - 49,000
Education & Health - 38,000
Leisure & Hospitality - 27,000
Manufacturing (Solid growth) - 25,000
Even though those industries job availability had been increasing, government & construction reported losing 9,000 and 1,000 jobs.
Only reason construction was declining because of the rescission and in result no one was building more houses or home improvements and home value & sales were in decline. Even in the past couple months and within the next year, housing has and will be improving, but not only will that increase more construction jobs it'll also help the economy to give it what it need to start adding more jobs constantly to bring the unemployment rate down.
Pretty soon the "Bush-era," tax cuts will be expired and if Congress doesn't act fast, there's going to be mandated spending cuts.To me that seems to be very unfair due to the fact that employers aren't doing more. Now about 12.8 Americans are unemployed.
Question to You :
1. With the economy like this which industry would you put yourself in? What about in the next 5 years?
2. What would your advice to employers be?
Paul Ryan, May Not Be Romney's Saving Grace
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/20/paul-ryan-booed-town-hall_n_851631.html
I'm sure many of us have heard on the news that Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan as his VP. In my own opinion this was a terrible move on the side Romney. Paul Ryan's name has become synonymous with the budget plan that he helped construct, a budget plan that the democrats have said will phase out Medicare, Social Security, etc. This was the first red flag Romney would've seen before choosing him, as now hes given the democrats a nice big red target to attack. In the article attached to this you can see a town hall meeting in which Paul Ryan is literally booed for basically saying we need to cut taxes on the rich and tax the poor more. I cant speak for you guys but I'm not writing this from inside my lavish mansion so I don't really see myself getting behind this. What your opinion on the video? do you think Romney shot himself in the foot by doing this or do you see it differently?

Mitt Romney is the Leading Cause of Wife Cancer
In case anyone does not understand the reference to Romney causing "wife cancer" in my post below, I was referring to this ad here.
For one, I think it is absurd beyond belief to try to put responsibility for that woman's death on Mitt Romney, and it show how desperate the Obama campaign is to turn attention away from the disaster he calls a Presidency. In Barack Obama's own words, "If you don't have a record to run on, you paint your opponent as someone people should run from." -Democratic National Convention '08. Now, he's resorted to "Don't elect Mitt Romney or all the wives of America will get cancer and die." Yeah. Way to prove yourself right. I think Jon Stewart does a good job of point out the absurdity of this ad.
And just to ramble on a bit more about Paul Ryan, now the Obama campaign doesn't have to scavenger for desperate nonsensical attacks like this, they'll just go back to the ol' fashioned "The Ryan Budget throws grandma off a cliff" attack that is all so common (but just as untrue as "Romney causes wife cancer"). The Democrats now have something to try to make this election about other than a referendum on the Obama failure on the economy.

Vice President Paul Ryan?
Let's just talk here. I don't have an article for this one, I just want to do a little venting. Paul Ryan was a terrible choice for Romney as his running mate. Before today, this election was a referendum on the terrible job Obama has done with almost everything as President. But now, it's no longer that way, now it's a choice. And that's bad for Romney. The thing Paul Ryan is most known for round Washington is the thing that bears his name the infamous/famous (depending on your ideology) "Ryan budget". This budget, according to Democrats will destroy Medicare, Social Security, etc as we know it. That alone changes this election completely. That actually gives something for Obama & the Democrats to attack instead of petty nonsense like Romney causes wife cancer. The other reason why this is a bad pick is that traditionally the running mate has been used as the attack dog. The running mate is the one that is supposed to be relentless on getting after everything that's wrong with the opponent. Paul Ryan is not that person. He simply does not do that. He does not like attacking his opponents, especially in the way the running mate traditionally does. Furthermore, just look at Joe Biden, he's been on the attack relentlessly since the start. That puts the self dubbed "Comeback Team" or the "R&R" at a disadvantage because they do not have that attack dog that the Democrats have.
This is a bad choice. I'm sure you all know I was hoping for Bob McDonnell to be the pick, but hey, the GOP clearly doesn't know how to choose running mates.

Get to Know GovTrack
Why? Because real-life examples help us to understand complicated concepts.
How? Click on this link in order to learn more about current government structure and the actual people who legislate.
Background Info:
Yes, you have studied the Constitution this summer. You have pushed forward to make sense of its complicated syntax and legal jargon. You have begun to make sense of this most American document; the word itself coming from the French and Latin, constitutio, meaning regulations and orders.
Quick Quiz:
- What branch of government is outlined by Article One in the Constitution?
- What are the responsibilities of this branch?
- Name three significant members of this branch of government. Including their state and political party.
- Which of the two houses of this branch do you think has more power? Explain your thinking with evidence from the Article One of the Constitution and/or current political events.

No More Summer Break!
Can you imagine not getting the two months off of school in the summer that most of us enjoy? Well it does take place in a lot of districts, and it's called year-round schooling. Sounds scary right? The thought of having to go to school during the summer, when you would rather be outside having fun?
Usually I talk about President Obama's new healthcare law. But I bet you're tired of me rambling about it, I know I am. While it is one of the biggest controversies of 2012, it isn't the only one around. So let's talk about something different. Let's talk about year-round schooling. Usually I have strong feelings about a topic, but I'm really lost as to what to believe with this one. But I hope you have an opinion, and take the time to tell me about it in the comment section.
I was once again surfing the web, and came across an article that really interested me. I found it on the New York Times, which, I have to say, is a great source for a wide variety of news, and I love their feature that suggests related articles to you. I found this article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/06/education/some-schools-adopting-longer-years-to-improve-learning.html?_r=1&ref=us
In many schools across the country, kids are a few days into their school year, if not more than that. Instead of two months of summer vacation, they only have about one month. Instead of the usual 180 days of school, some have 200 days. "That's crazy!" you may say. "We already have too much school time as it is". Well, even though I don't mind going to school, and actually like it, I still enjoy summer vacation. I would be lost without it, especially considering how stressful June was. Right now, I am enjoying summer vacation, and in no way, shape or form want it to end. I'm not happy at all that the school year is starting on the 29th of this month, that is a little early in my opinion. This summer is going by way too fast, and I couldn't even imagine it being shorter. I can't! Any shorter at all would be too short. Our school calendar is fine, no need to make any changes.
Or is there? While most of us love summer vacation, let's face the facts: it doesn't last forever. Most jobs don't allow their employees to take off two months of a time. So before I continue, I'll say that we should all deeply appreciate this, because when we get older it won't be there. We'll be working while kids are running around playing. I was horrified when I was younger, and found out that when I get older there will be no summer vacation. Is there any way to prepare for it? Yes, there is. Year-round schooling, whether you like it or not, is a good way to prepare kids for the workforce. It prepares everyone for life, in a way. Yeah, it might be nice outside, but so what? You still have to go to school, adults still have to go to work. It sounds fair, right?
Well, I really don't know. But it is certainly a topic worth talking about. So please, as many people as possible, let me know what your opinion is of this whole issue. Because, I have no idea what would be best. Would year-round schooling ruin kids' childhoods? Or would it be a good opportunity for everyone to prepare for the workforce? Do the positive reasons of implementing it outweigh the negatives? Or vice versa? Please, let me know.
Just Google "Year-round schooling" and plenty of articles will come up if you need them. Thank you all very much for taking the time to read my post!

BORN THIS WAY...
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/12/magazine/whats-so-bad-about-a-boy-who-wants-to-wear-a-dress.html?hp
There will always be a controversial dispute on whether gay sexual orientation is considered a "sin" or "wrong." I personally don't have a say in whether it's considered "wrong" or "right." I feel that citizens of the U.S. should do as they will. No one should be criticized for what they believe in or what they have no control over. If a boy wants to wear a dress, then that is his business and he has free will to do so. It is not our job to determine if it is a sin to the Bible. It is God's job to decide! I would like to point out that in the Bible: Matthew 7:1, it quotes, "Do not judge others, and you will not be judged." Meaning you have no say in whether gay/bi sexuality is wrong!
What would you do if your child happened to be born a different way than your, "Biblical Standards?" Would you disown him and treat him as if he weren't human OR would you be the uplifting and encouraging parent that would do anything to make your child feel as comfortable as can be in a world so mischievous?

AMERICANS BACK TO WORK!
A LOT OF PEOPLE SEEM TO FORGET THAT IT TAKES TIME TO RECOVER FROM THE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS THAT WE FACE NOW. Many people blame Obama for it,But it was already a problem before he came into the office. http://www.barackobama.com/record/economy?source=primary-nav this link will send you to the page that explians more of what he plans to do. It reads
"When President Obama took office, the economy was losing more than 700,000 jobs per month. President Obama acted quickly to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which cut taxes for small businesses and 95% of working families. It also included emergency funding to support about 300,000 educator jobs, more than 4,600 law enforcement positions, and investments in the clean energy sector that supported 224,500 jobs through 2010. Through May 2012, the economy has added 4.4 million private sector jobs over 28 consecutive months of job growth."If he has done this so far it leads me to think of the other things he can do in "4 MORE YEARS". This year I get to vote and im going to really look into all parties running. This just caught my eye.
-AMBERMARIE
Opportunity or Burden?
A few minutes ago, I was browsing the web as usual, reading the news, checking Facebook, my email, etc. And I came across this article in the New York Times that really, let's be honest, pissed me off. It's yet another article about Barack Obama's healthcare law. The most controversial law around these days. The law that has been in the news for a very long time, so long, that it's beginning to annoy me. "Why?" you might ask. Because, I've found that this law isn't so great after all - at first I thought of it as a good thing, but soon learned it is FAR from that. "Why?" you might ask again. I might vent and/or go off topic occasionally, so bear with me please.
Well, I'll tell you why. You know how there is a huge unemployment problem in the United States? I'm sure you do, if you don't you really need to climb out of that cave you're living in. People are losing their jobs left and right, and nothing seems to be getting better. In reality, it is getting worse, far worse. Everywhere in the news you hear about shortages:
Shortages of farm crops due to the drought
http://rt.com/usa/news/us-drought-food-global-058/
Shortage of truckers
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CHAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatoday.com%2Fmoney%2Feconomy%2Femployment%2Fstory%2F2012-06-22%2Ftruck-driver-shortage%2F55797686%2F1&ei=KJoVULCKMIbr6wG3mIHoBw&usg=AFQjCNGKvumsRgk145XhsKtW-a3UdwUFZA&sig2=i7JGo1t38s4NdopxX2OkwA
Shortage of Blood Supply
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/30/american-red-cross-blood-blood-supply_n_1720977.html
Etc, etc, etc
Shortages of vital things are occurring all over the world. And here's another shortage: shortage of doctors.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/29/health/policy/too-few-doctors-in-many-us-communities.html?_r=1&hp
Shortage of people we depend on to help us overcome our illness(s). Shortages of people who keep us alive. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Well, it is, face it. It's time for everyone who does to stop denying everything and face the truth - it's the only way things can even come close to getting better.
With Obama's new healthcare law, this shortage is supposed to get even worse. That's right, WORSE. I thought this was supposed to help people, specifically the poor, and all it's going to do is make things even worse. As it said in the article, health insurance COVERAGE is increased. COVERAGE. That does not mean health CARE. "Local health experts doubt there will be enough doctors to meet the area’s needs. There are not enough now" according to The New York Times. That's certainly a wake-up call. That got me thinking, "What kind of twisted law is this?" It makes things even worse for people. In no way is this plan helping anyone at all, because without an adequate amount of doctors, not a SINGLE positive difference is made. Not a single one. It's basically useless. Isn't this just wonderful (sarcastic)?
Now I see why so many people oppose this whole thing. It's sad that the poor cannot be helped, really sad. All of our government wants to do is CHARGE people. They love doing that. I'm not saying they're the only one, but they are sure good at it. And to me, anyone who isn't aware of the bad situation this country is in is living in the clouds. Those people seriously need to GET REAL. Things are not okay. This country is a big mess. Everything is falling apart all over the nation. Obama launched this stupid, downright STUPID healthcare plan. Now, maybe all the blame can't be put on him. But certainly he has not made anything better in this country worth talking about. But I blame Congress for that.
So now that I've vented my opinion about this whole thing, feel free to express yours. If you completely oppose my view, no problem. If you think my way of expressing this opinion is terribly wrong, no problem. If you think I'm the one being stupid and not Obama, no problem. It's a free country (or at least supposed to be). You can think what you want. I fully respect your opinion.
My question is, what do you think of this law? Can anything be done to improve it? Can anything be done to deliver RELIABLE healthcare to the poor? Feel free to let me know.
We're all in this together, and if we want to do anything about anything, we HAVE to be aware of the severity of the issues plaguing our country, and as I said before, how everything is NOT okay.

Shortage of truckers

Shortage of Blood Supply

And remember guys, this healthcare law is going to cost the government billions and trillions of dollars.
